Stunning Salt Flats

Travel Just 4U's representative in Bolivia will meet you at the La Paz International airport upon arrival. They will be holding a sign with your name after you leave the secure area with your bags. Please do not leave this area until you have found each other. 

They will escort you to your private transfer, bring you to your hotel and present you with a detailed itinerary for your experiences in Bolivia. This is your chance to run through specific pick up times and logistics for your tours in the country.

Within a 7-minute walk of The Witches' Market and San Francisco Church, this bright, casual hotel is on a bustling street with shops. It is an 11-minute walk from the grand Plaza Murillo.

You will be picked up after breakfast for this private full day city tour of La Paz. 

You will begin this tour with a walk surrounded by skyscrapers which shelter government and private offices. You will visit San Francisco Church, jewel of the barroque with its incredible altar worked entirely in gold foil. You will then continue to Plaza Murillo, La Paz's main square where you can also admire the Cathedral and Government Palace. Find yourself in the middle of the Historical Center with its colonial streets and museums. You will then discover the Sagárnaga street and the witches market offering many ingredients used for local medicine. 

Continue your day with the visit of La Paz's famous Moon Valley. You will cross over from the west and get a better picture of the unique geography of this one of a kind city. Arriving, a sense of disorientation will invade you just by seeing this clay valley formed through centuries.

Lunch is not included in this tour but you will stop for lunch before continuing your visit of the city by cable car. This brand new transportation system has just been inaugurated in 2014 and not only offers a faster alternative for locals but also an incredible chance for tourists to enjoy La Paz from the air. Admire the mountains that surround the city and marvel at the unique urban landscape before returning to your hotel. 

Full day excursion to the Uyuni Salt flat, the world's largest salt deposit (around 10.000 km2), which is the most impressive and unforgettable experience of this 3 day trip. 

Before arriving to the salt flat, you will visit Colchani, a traditional salt refinement center to see how it is processed and used.  Lunch will be served in the middle of the salt desert.

From a distance, the Uyuni Salt Flat seems to be a large ice-skating rink or glacier. The tour begins by heading towards the famous Incahuasi Island (formerly known as the Fish island) covered with petrified algae and huge cactus. There is a nice panoramic view of the surrounding area from the top as the 'island' is surrounded by a sea of white salt.

After exploring the island, taking many photos using the unique depth perspective provided by the uninterrupted salt flats, you will continue on to San Pedro de Quemez. On the way, visit to a natural rock formation Cueva de las Galaxias.

Located south of the Uyuni Salt Flat in an environment of majestic mountains the Tayka de Piedra Hotel welcomes visitors who travel through this area in search of new and unforgettable experiences.

Today you will drive across the vast high plateau to reach the lookout of Ollagüe Volcano stopping at beautiful sites along the way.

In the afternoon, you will visit three of the smaller lagoons in the area including Honda, Cañapa, Hedionda and Chiar Khota. A variety of endemic Andean bird species, including the famous 'James Flamingo' can be found. 

After visiting the lagoons, continue to your hotel for the evening.

In the middle of an incomparable spot, painted with a range of colors that nature has whimsically combined, is the Tayka del Desierto Hotel, in the heart of the Siloli Desert.

The hotel was built next to a water source, where different birds of the place (among them partridges) went to drink water. The combination of the water source, also called water eyes, and the presence of these birds ended up giving the hotel its name: Tayka del Desierto Hotel Ojo de Perdiz (Partridge´s eye), also known as Ojito de Perdiz.

Today is an early starting and you will stop for breakfast along the way to the first sights of the day. 

Visit the “Arbol de Piedra”, a surreal natural rock formation in the middle of Siloli’s desert. Next you will visit Laguna Colorada. This lagoon owes its intense red-brick colour to the light sensitive phytoplankton present in its water.

Next, continue to head north for an excursion to the Sol de Mañana Geysers (el. 4850 m.a.s.l.), a volcanic crater from which sulphuric fumes and heavy water escape, then cross the Dali Desert (named after the scenery reminiscent of one of his paintings). Box Lunch.

Finally, you will reach the Lagunas Blanca and Verde, at the foot of volcanoes Juriques and Licancabur (el. 5960 m). There is a curious phenomenon: when the wind picks up, the waters of Laguna Verde changes to a spectacular emerald colour. 

Transfer to Hito Cajon border with Chile and assistance with immigration formalities. Say goodbye to your Uyuni Salt Flat guide and transfer to your hotel in San Pedro with a Spanish speaking driver who will be waiting for you at the border.

Expect to spend a spectacular evening exploring Death Valley and watching the sun set in Moon Valley. The tour heads from San Pedro due north. First the group will stop to take some great pictures of the Andean Mountain range, the Atacama salt lake mountain, the active Lascar Volcano and the impressive Licancabur Volcano. 

Your first destination is Death Valley, home to bizarre rock agglomerations. There you will have time to discover this barren land formed by erosion over thousands of years. Afterwards you will continue towards Moon Valley, a silent moonscape with strange formations that nature has carved of salt and clay. 

You will visit the “Tres Marías” rock formation and salt caverns before watching the sun fade away into the night. Before sunset you can also opt for a short hike to one of the giant sand dunes in the valley for a better view.

After the tour, you will be returned to your hotel.

Explore the nearby town of Toconao and the Salar de Atacama with this shared half day adventure. 

The tour starts by heading south on wide open, unpaved roads to visit the town of Toconao. You will explore the largest salt lake in Chile that is part of the driest desert in the world. The Salar de Atacama is formed by a series of salt basins stretching beyond the horizon. It is dry and barren but it is one of the most spectacular and dramatic landscapes on earth. 

It is home to various species of flamingos as well as many other birds. The Laguna Chaxa, part of the Flamingo National Reserve, offers a terrific opportunity to get close up look at the surrounding landscape.

Finally, looking towards the Andes enjoy a colorful sunset bringing you to the end of your tour. Return to your Hotel in San Pedro de Atacama.

Wander around this cute pueblo at your own pace and get a taste of what it is like to live in the driest dessert in the world. There are handicraft markets, a beautiful small town square and historic church.

Before dawn breaks, you will be picked up from your hotel and depart San Pedro.

Head north to the famous El Tatio Geysers, a geothermal field flanked by soaring peaks. El Tatio is situated at 4.300 m above sea level high on the Altiplano. It is the highest geothermal field in the world and boasts spectacular scenery. You will need to make sure to bring warm clothes as temperatures at this altitude are considerably low this early in the morning. 

At dawn you will observe powerful spurts of steam that shoot out from various geyser blowholes and steaming ponds that are encrusted with brilliant salt crystals reflecting the metal-blue sky. 

A simple breakfast will be waiting for you after walking through the thermal fields.

After this visit to El Tatio, you will explore the village of Machuca known as the resting place for llama caravans that travelled the Inca Highway. Here you can buy some local treats and depending on the day, potentially try a tasty, high protien snack of barbecued llama skewer.

You will be returned to your hotel just after midday.

The Puritama hot springs are located only 30 kilometers from San Pedro de Atacama. Known for their warm temperatures and rich mineral composition many people believe they contain therapeutic properties and medicinal benefits. This series of eight large pools are connected by wooden footpaths and boast a small waterfall and changing rooms. 

Enjoy time in relaxation and peace surrounded by the deserts natural landscape. On the way back an optional stop at the Valle de los Cactus is available where one can take amazing pictures next to large and tall cacti.

Your transfer will be waiting with your name on a sign. They will have limited English but good enough to guide you to your transfer. They will ensure you receive your documentation for the rest of your Chile trip.

You will explore the historical and modern sights of Santiago de Chile. The tour starts at the main avenue Alameda Bernardo O’Higgins with a visit to La Moneda, which is the Government Palace, where you will learn about the historical and modern importance. 

Next you will walk through the pedestrian streets of Huérfanos and Ahumada, where the main commercial activity of the city is concentrated. The famous main square of the city called 'Plaza de Armas' is your next stop. The plaza is surrounded by the Metropolitan Cathedral and other key historical buildings. You will continue on and visit Santa Lucia hill, the hilltop upon which the Spanish founded Santiago in 1541. 

Santa Lucia is a beautiful area to explore with extensive gardens and an antique building rising steeply overlooking the city below. Next you will cross the Mapocho River and enter the Bellavista area, the cultural and artistic neighborhood of Santiago. 

Bellavista lies at the foot of the San Cristóbal Hill, the highest point of the city in the middle of the Metropolitan Park. You will ascend the hill to explore the surroundings and enjoy panoramic views of the city. The last stop is a visit to Providencia with its top restaurants, elegant shops and modern high-rise buildings. 

After this tour you will be dropped off at your hotel.
