This program is for those looking to experience the rain forest on a more calmed pace. Walk the trails, visit the Ñape medicinal garden, the Tres Chimbadas oxbow lake, enjoy some hammock time and experience some days at this lodge in the middle of the Infierno Community private reserve.
Notes on Posada Amazonas Guiding Service
Guides are tourism professionals or local community members. Unless noted otherwise, our guides speak English. We assign guides at 10:1 ratio in Posada Amazonas. This means groups smaller than 10 people will be merged with other groups under one guide. If you would like a private guide for your group, please let us know in advance and we can provide a quote.
You can choose to participate in all of the suggested activities below or skip some if you prefer to relax at the lodge.
Day 1 - Overview
Transfer Airport to Puerto Maldonado Headquarters
Upon arrival to the airport, you will be welcomed at the airport and driven ten minutes to the Puerto Maldonado headquarters. While enjoying your first taste of the forest in the gardens, you will be able to pack only the necessary gear for your next few days. The rest of your luggage will stay safe in our safety deposit area in the head office. This helps us keep the boats and cargo light for the trip further into the jungle.
Transfer via land Puerto Maldonado Headquarters to Tambopata River Port
You will drive 20 kilometers through the city of Puerto Maldonado to the Tambopata River Port, entering the Native Community of Infierno. The port is a communal business.
You will be provided with a boxed lunch here.
Boat Transfer - Tambopata River Port to Posada Amazonas
You will board a boat for a forty five minute ride through the jungle from the Tambopata Port to Posada Amazonas. This ride will take you into the Community´s Primary Forest Private Reserve.
Arrival & Orientation
Upon arrival, the lodge manager will welcome you and brief on your stay. You will have time to settle into your rooms.
Canopy Tower
Only a twenty minute walk from Posada Amazonas, you will arrive at a 30 meter scaffolding canopy tower. A staircase with a banister running through the middle provides safe access to the platforms above. From atop, you will have spectacular views of the vast expanses of standing forest with the Tambopata River winding through the middle. If you are lucky, you will see toucans, parrots or macaws flying against the horizon while mixed species canopy flocks land in the treetop next to you.
Return to the lodge for dinner.
Ecotourism Lecture
A daily presentation on the Infierno ecotourism project is available every night from a staff member for those interested.
