Day 1: Arrival into Easter Island and settle into explora Easter Island

Upon arrival at the airport, the explora hotel representative will meet you and escort you to the hotel. Once there, settle into your new luxury surroundings and enjoy your first dinner. Our dishes have been designed to enable guests to perform various explorations and still feel light, agile, and healthy. Our dishes are always accompanied by a superb Chilean wine. We also carry a menu of Premium wines for those that would like to try other alternatives. 

Located 8 km from Hanga Roa, on a 9.6 km2 plot of land, unsuitable for agriculture and containing no archaeological remains, explora Rapa Nui is located in a privileged location from which to explore the island. Our hotel’s architecture combines the island’s particular geography with local culture. It was built in 2007 and it has a LEED certification for environmentally friendly construction and efficient energy use. In addition to the rooms and common areas, there is a pool, an outdoor Jacuzzi and a massage room. 

All our programs include accommodations, transfers to and from the airport, meals and drinks, and a selection of more than 30 exploration routes designed by our outdoor team. Our routes include hikes and bicycle explorations among archaeological remains, volcanoes, beaches, prairies and cliffs, as well as snorkeling and diving activities in some of the world’s clearest waters.

Wake up surrounded by the breathtaking views. Today is yours to select from a large range of excursions provided by Explora, There are plenty of options to choose from!  

You might choose to start the day with a hike to visit the famous moai. one exploration is the Roiho hike which takes you to Ahu Akivi, the only platform with moai facing the ocean. We then hike along the Roiho lava fields with magma-shaped tunnels and caves. Finally, we continue hiking along the coast up to the Tahai archaeological site. 

You may want to hike to the  Papa Vaka archaeological site, which features a large number of petroglyphs. We hike through the area of Hotu Iti, plains among archaeological remains, rock gardens, and traditional farming sites. We arrive to Ahu Tongariki, the largest ceremonial platform in the Island. We return by van. 

Or for those wanting for water adventures, you can choose to have the exploaration that includes Snorkeling the Bird Islets which is near the Hanga Roa’s cove, where we take a boat to sea caves with views to the cliffs, the Rano Kau crater and Motus, the famous islets due to the Birdman competition. We can snorkel around the Motus due to unbeatable clear water conditions. 

Today is another day to explore this beautiful landscape. You may choose for another hike or why not try a bike ride to Akivi. We leave explora on our bikes following inland routes, go up a gentle slope and ride along traditional Rapa Nui crop fields. We arrive at Ahu Akivi, the place where seven moai are facing the ocean. 

For those wanting for difficult bike ride, try the Navigators’ Mountain ride. We leave explora and ride uphill along the Terevaka Volcano, a point of orientation for navigators. With a 360° view, we can see the remoteness of this destination. We then ride up to Ahu Akivi, the platform with seven moai facing the ocean. We return by van.

Or you may want to take a an overland visit to Hanga. We take a van to Papa Vaka, an archaeological site with petroglyphs. We hike and go by a cove and continue hiking up to Tepito Kura, a site featuring a huge tumbled moai and a magnetic stone associated to Rapa Nui’s origins. We continue by van to Anakena, the landing area of the first Polynesian settlers. Time to enjoy the beach. Bring your swimsuit. In the evening you can relax at the hotel before dinner.

On your last day here, you may want to choose one last half day exploration  such as the overland exploration to Rapa Nui Sanctuaries. We visit Akivi with the Ahu of the 7 moai facing the ocean. We hike through the lava field of Roiho, where we see a lava tunnel. We continue by van to the Hanga Kioe sanctuary, where we see a standing moai watching over its village. We then hike to the Rapa Nui cemetery passing Tahai. 

Afterwards, you will bid farewell and transfer back to the airport for your onward flight.
