Overview: 

Holding over one-half of the planet’s remaining rainforest, this astonishing ecosystem owes its existence to a truly life source: the Amazon River.

Rising in the Peruvian Andes, the Amazon River winds its way east over the northern part of South America until reaching the Atlantic Ocean. It carries into the Atlantic a higher volume of water than the earth’s top-10 largest rivers flowing into the ocean combined. Recent studies claims that the Amazon River is actually longer than the Nile by 65 miles; and researchers at the National Geographic Society have determined the source point of the river to be at Mount Mismi in Arequipa (in Southern Peru). Its “green treasures” are a wealth that hold great promises for Earth and mankind in the future.

Whether you choose a 3- or 4-night stay onboard our cruises, rest assured you will get an unforgettable experience. All of our programs have been carefully crafted to showcase the best flora and fauna that the Marañon and Ucayali Rivers in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve have to boast, along with offering ideal soft adventure excursions for travelers to further discover the secrets of the Peruvian Amazonia.

Although all activities are optional, we encourage our guests to tempt their adventurous side and choose among our big array of experiences, including: kayaking in the calm creeks and lakes, fishing for piranhas at sunset, skirting the riverbanks in search of playful creatures, birdwatching, trail walks, and visits to local communities to interact with the native people, and more.

Day 1 Arrival to Iquitos and embarkation

Welcome to Iquitos! You will be met at the airport by your Cruise Representative. They will take you from the airport to the port of Nauta, where the vessel will depart and set sail from. Nauta is a small riverside town on the banks of the Marañon River and was the first city founded in the department of Loreto. 

Aboard the Delfin, you will be served by our qualified staff who will introduce you to your exquisite and cozy suite, specially equipped with all the amenities for the experienced traveler as yourself. Once on board you will be able to enjoy a happy hour and orientation tour of your vessel.

While the Delfin begins its initial navigation, you will enjoy the most fantastic panoramic views. Your naturalist guide will give you an overview of your journey’s schedule, activities, route, highlights, wildlife and vegetation to keep your eye out for, geographical and historical background, and other useful details.

Today you have the option to visit a local community and take part in a kayaking adventure. Then in the afternoon have a jungle trail and canopy walk (canopy walk only available on the Delfin I)

The Amazon Basin includes a diversity of traditional inhabitants, people who have lived in the rainforest for thousands of years and whose lifestyles and customs are well adapted to this environment. Contrary to popular belief, the daily living of these communities does not significantly harm their home environment. Their work day is mostly occupied by subsistence activities such as fishing, small-scale agriculture, gathering and hunting. Their survival depends on their intimate relationship with their natural surroundings. 

What better way to see the Amazon waterways up, close and personal then via a kayak. Kayaks make for excellent opportunities to paddle smoothly and silently into small creeks, tributaries, and lagoons. 

In the afternoon, see nature like you have never seen before! in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve! Trail walks at destinations such as Fundo Casual will take you deep into the rainforest where your guide will point out amazing creatures and vegetation of the Amazon. A local native assistant may also accompany you in order to bring you closer to different animals such as frogs, snakes, and insects. These are light activities and we provide rubber boots and rain ponchos in case of inclement weather.

On board the Delfin I you can also get a new perspective from the treetops of the Amazon Rain forest with a canopy walk. At a height of more than 25 meters and with a length of more than 500 meters, our canopy walkway provides you with unparalleled views of the Amazon Rainforest, its wildlife and vegetation. High above the ground, you will encounter birds and other animals that cannot be seen from the jungle floors, with each layer of the canopy unveiling something new. It is one of the longest canopy walkways in the world, accessible to all and requires no special skills or equipment.

After this day out exploring the amazing Amazon, you can sit back and relax on board and enjoy a beautiful sunset and delicious dinner!

 This morning, you'll have a delightful picnic breakfast. Our dedicated staff pride themselves on carefully preparing contemporary dishes using the wild choices of fresh ingredients that the Amazon region has in store, and offer exceptional service for your ultimate indulgence. 

You will then be able to participate in a real Amazon fishing experience where the exotic catches come with an environmental approach. Fishing was never more exciting as in the lagoons and creeks of the Upper Amazon jungle, where you can encounter the mighty peacock bass, the gigantic awe-inspiring Amazon catfish, and other exotic sporting species while enjoying the comfort, security, and style of a Delfin Amazon Cruises experience. As part of our commitment to the environment, we exercise a strict policy of catch and release.

In the afternoon, you'll head to Piranha creek and be abel to see the Amazon confluence, or the junction of two rivers. Via a skiff exploration you'll explore your adventurous side. Our skiffs are stable to ride and ready to navigate into the most hidden corners of the Amazon. Each skiff come with their own expert naturalist guide, captain, and features all safety regulations. 

 On your last day onboard, you may decide to be in the mood for some indulgence to help you find your zen. Our wellness experts (only available onboard Delfin II & III) can accommodate to your schedule and provide massages and scrubs inspired by the traditional wisdom of the rainforest. 

After breakfast, you will disembark the Delfin and as part of your cruise, you will visit the Rescue & Rehabilitation Center of River Mammals (ACOBIA) A learning experience about manatees and other endangered species. You will have the chance to feed manatees and learn about these docile creatures and why they are on the endangered species list. In addition, there are other animals cared for by the center that have been rescued from capture and other threatening conditions. These include monkey species, river otters, and more. A band of dedicated volunteers work hard all year round to ensure their efforts are sustained. 

Afterwards, you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
